Roadmap
A living, lightweight view of where Fate's Edge is headed — not a promise of dates. The authoritative, granular backlog lives in each repo's issue tracker; this page is the "why would I care" summary for new contributors. For what's already shipped, jump to the Changelog below.
Bigger milestones get a proper write-up on the dev blog when they land — this page just tracks direction.
Now
- Stabilizing the Tag DSL surface so third-party GM directives don't break on upgrade.
- Expanding transport-layer event parity across all client surfaces.
- Growing the LLM driver roster beyond the current defaults.
Next
- A mobile-friendly client surface.
- More adventure modules from the community, using the JSON-based, rules-native format.
- Voice stack adapters beyond the current TTS/RVC pipeline.
Later / exploratory
- Additional VTT integrations beyond Roll20 and Foundry.
- Community-run adventure module registry.
The content track
The lists above are software. A comparable amount of work happens on the books, and it has its own backlog — worth stating, because some of it is more approachable than the code for anyone who'd rather write or proofread than commit.
Where it stands: 64 documents published to the reader — the SRD, both guides, 24 adventures, 21 expansions, 6 anthology volumes and the quickstarts — against roughly 114 LaTeX sources in the repository. So a meaningful fraction of the writing exists only as .tex and isn't readable by anyone who hasn't cloned it.
- Regenerate the LaTeX from the HTML. The pipeline currently points the wrong way. The repo was built as LaTeX-to-everything, but the HTML is what gets published and therefore what gets corrected, so the
.texsources have drifted — several still carry a retired Threat Level table, the previous edition's skill names and the old Position-overflow rule. The fix is to generate the LaTeX from the corrected HTML rather than merge two divergent copies by hand. Blocked first on the Player's Guide not compiling at all (missingfontawesome5.sty). - Convert the remaining supplements. Roughly forty LaTeX-only files, triaged in the repo's
GUIDES_TODO.md: a handful worth converting as they stand, a larger group that should be absorbed into documents that already exist rather than shipped as thin separate books, and one that's simply misfiled. - A fourth Peoples and Cultures volume. Twelve cultures still have no write-up — Ecktoria, Vhasia, Kahfagia, Silkstrand, Ashaan, Dhahara, Ubral, Fhara, Oshiira, Trow, Hag/Morag and the Linn. The source material for these is thin, so this one is authoring rather than conversion.
- The canonical-skill sweep. Every roll, prerequisite and NPC block in the Player's Guide checked against the sixteen skills. Tedious, mechanical, and exactly the kind of thing that's easy to review a PR for.
- Two manifest generators disagree.
sync_data_to_consumers.pyandgenerate-manifests.jsemit different bytes for the same file, so the apps tree flaps on every sync. Small, self-contained, and annoying to whoever touches it next. - A character migration tool. The skill list consolidated from sixteen to twelve, and the web client folds retired skills into their successors on load. That covers characters in the app; it does not cover a sheet somebody wrote out by hand, a PDF export, or a third-party tool. A small standalone converter — paste a character, get the twelve-skill version back — would close that, and is a contained first contribution.
- Heritage isn't applied by the dice roller.
roller.jsclamps Position correctly but doesn't read a character's Affinity or Limit, so players apply it by hand. A contained web-client task.
